The Home Depot Online

Comparing The Home Depot Online

The Home Depot has a pretty large footprint on the internet. Let us look at their website and mobile site design. Do they make the cut?

Website

  • Location permissions.
  • Good visuals.
  • The website flows naturally.
  • Excellent use of white space.
  • Current with seasonal and natural events.
  • Easy to use search and sort tools.
  • Very user friendly.

Mobile Site

  • Banners and buttons flow well.
  • Location permissions.
  • Good use of white space and contrast.
  • Great search and sort tools.
  • Easy to navigate.

My Suggestions

The only thing I would change is the rankings of the Halloween decorations on the home page. I think seasonal should be the first thing that appears on their website. That would show that they are trying to help you find exactly what you are looking for. During the seasonal/holidays like Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, Spring, etc., people are more likely looking for those. Seasonal first, then list the hot deals on a new kitchen or bathroom.

To Be or Not To Be: A Mobile Auto Service through THD

As a lady driver, I find myself with auto issues that I cannot fix myself. I know that sounds a bit sexist, but as a full time parent of four, I really don't get presented with opportunities to drive my vehicle to the shop and sit around for a couple of hours with the babies. All of my full time parent readers will completely understand what I mean. I was at the doctor's office this morning for a pretend injury for my two year old, and I am not kidding when I say that girl was convincing. Even sitting there with her and my six month old, my children got restless and suffered from severe boredom. That was just the doctor's office, where they were in no danger of running out into a car repair bay area and slipping on oil or some other hazardous waste. While I'm almost positive that doesn't actually happen; at least, I hope it doesn't, it is still one of my many anxieties taking children to a car repair shop. That, and kids get hungry, have to go to the bathroom, f...

The Home Depot Compared

Lowe's And The Home Depot These two major home improvement industries have modeled their websites similarly, with clean lines and bold context. Their pages are easy to use and easy to navigate in a snap. Through Google Alerts, their names are popping up in headlines everywhere, with each contributing to community needs. Lowe's donated thousands of dollars worth of boats to hurricane relief emergency rescue teams (Smith, 2018), while The Home Depot recently finished a re-roofing event for a Korean War vet (Quinn, 2018). Neither of them have crossed legal boundaries in regards to the CAN-SPAM Act, I can subscribe and unsubscribe at any time to their email lists. Critical Strategy Elements The Home Depot is certainly maximizing their Internet presence by keeping to their key elements of strategy. With their Do-It-Yourself model to bring in foot traffic, they are fully prepared to walk a newbee through a project step-by-step. Also, The Home Depot has designed a brillian...
